This post is dedicated to our Lady on the feast of Our lady of Sorrows (15 September).

Our Lady of Sorrows

In my current work, I need to do some experiments in order to test the system that I developed. This week I did the first experiment on last Thursday ( 9 September 2010), and it failed. I was quite stress.

I rescheduled the second experiment on Wednesday (15 September 2010). In order to make sure that the system will work, I spent the day before to do some preparations. Unfortunately at that night the system was not very stable, and I need to work until 11.00 pm. Because of this work, I couldn’t attend the bible study session at that day. It made me very sad.

During the day of the experiment, I was in anxiety. Is it going to work this time? Theoretically speaking it should, but how if it does not? Expecting something that has not come, and when there is a chance it may not come cause me to feel more anxiety. I was quite desperate so I prayed during the experiment, I pray Hail Mary. Thanks God finally the system worked very well.

The point is not about the result, but the process. I was in agony, I was sad, but when I pray to our Lady, I received consolation. She is with me. She understands my anxiety and sadness as she experienced greater sorrow during her life.

Here are the 7 sorrows of our Lady:

  1. The Prophecy of Simeon over the Infant Jesus. (Luke 2:34)
  2. The Flight into Egypt. (Matthew 2:13)
  3. The Loss of the Child Jesus for Three Days. (Luke 2:43)
  4. The Meeting of Jesus and Mary along the Way of the Cross. (Luke 23:26)
  5. The Crucifixion, where Mary stands at the foot of the cross. (John 19:25)
  6. The Descent from the Cross, where Mary receives the dead body of Jesus in her arms. (Matthew 27:57)
  7. The Burial of Jesus. (John 19:40)

I think my little sorrow in my work is related to the third sorrow of our Lady. My anxiety as I was expecting the experiment to be successful is similar , but in the very little scale as compared to the anxiety that she experienced while looking for Jesus. The anxiety in expecting, and hoping.

I am grateful that our Lady, my mother, is with me during my anxiety. She always give me comfort, and intercede my prayer.

How about you? How does she comfort you today? Which prayer that she intercedes for you today?
